Kostas Hatzikiriakou has a Degree in Mathematics from Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (1981), a M.Sc. in Mathematics from Bedford College, University of London, UK (1983), a Ph. D. in Mathematics (field of specialization: Mathematical Logic) from Pennsylvania State University, U.S.A. (1989) and a Certification of postgraduate specialization in Open and Distance Education from the Greek Open University (1999).

His current research interests are related to Ι. Mathematical Logic (especially the program of Reverse Mathematics) and Philosophy of Mathematics ΙΙ. Mathematical Education (and especially (i) the use of Literature and History of Mathematics in learning and teaching Mathematics (ii) the teaching and learning of Logic and proving and (iii) the use of manipulatives and software in teaching Geometry) and (recently) III. Interactive Theorem Proving.
