Course Design and Curriculum Development in Contemporary Learning Environments

The modern learning and teaching environment in Primary and Secondary education is more complex than in the past. Passive adherence to textbooks and faithful coverage of a predetermined curriculum are no longer sufficient. Thus, designing a lesson has become more intricate, and educators should be able to plan lessons with a focus on non-frontal and non-monophonic teaching, collaborative work, greater autonomy on the part of students, and the integration of all forms of diversity encountered in the modern learning and teaching environment. Ultimately, educators need to be able to create an environment of interactive discovery, choosing teaching goals, creating or adapting existing teaching materials, designing lessons and teaching approaches, and evaluating their teaching work.
