Educational History Laboratory

The Educational History Laboratory of the Pedagogical Department of Primary Education, School of Humanities and Social Sciences of the University of Thessaly was established in 1996 (Gov. Gazette 200, 27/08/1996) with the following main objectives: a) the collection and research utilization of every piece of information related to the history of Greek educational institutions, b) the preparation and digitization of documents of educational and local history, c) participation in research programs related to local and educational history, d) raising awareness among students, educators and the public on issues of local studies and educational history, e) the creation of a website for the storage and display of archival material.
The research categories of the Laboratory include Modern Greek History, History of Modern Greek Education, Local History, History Teaching and Oral History.

Laboratory of Educational Technologies and Educational Software Development (LETESD)

The Laboratory of Educational Technologies and Educational Software Development focuses on two main objectives: first, the exploration of ways to effectively integrate educational technology—and particularly Information and Communication Technologies (ICT)—into teaching practice; and second, the design and development of high-quality educational software that supports effective teaching and learning across all subject areas and educational levels.

Students receive training in the use and pedagogical application of computers, the Internet, and educational media in teaching. They also gain experience in producing traditional educational materials and in developing simple multimedia and hypermedia educational applications.

Greek Language and Multiligualism Laboratory

Greek Language and Multiligualism Laboratory is actively engaged in

  • The teaching and learning of Greek as a first, second, and foreign language
  • Developing critical language education
  • Studying and analyzing the Greek language, primarily from a sociolinguistic perspective, and scientifically contributing to issues of language and educational policy
  • Researching language contact and interaction
  • Promoting multilingualism through sociolinguistic, pedagogical, and policy-oriented actions and initiatives

Science Education Laboratory

The Science Education Laboratory serves the teaching and research needs of Science Education emphasized on inquiry-based learning.

Fields of activity:

  • Research on students’ ideas and learning paths about science concepts
  • Reconstruction of scientific knowledge into school knowledge
  • Design and evaluation of experimental teaching and inquiry learning environments (real, virtual, distance)
  • Design of Teaching Learning Sequences in the field of natural sciences.

Creative Reading, Writing and Literary Education Laboratory [interdepartmental]

The Creative Reading, Writing and Literary Education Laboratory is interdepartmental. It belongs to and operates in both the Departments of Language and Intercultural Studies and of Primary Education of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences. It serves research and teaching needs in the broader field of Literary Education and, more specifically, topics that are related to creative writing and reading, literary reading, teaching of literature, reading for pleasure.
